Language & Math

The Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) Program is designed to provide individualized assistance to adult learners who are seeking to improve their reading, writing, math, employability or computer skills.

Each learner will develop a personal training plan and set personal goals. Learners will develop sufficient skills to pursue further education in a high school credit course, gain everyday skills for independence or acquire the essential skills necessary for employment.

Independent Learning Centre

The Independent  Learning Centre (ILC) is pleased to have a working relationship with a wide variety of organizations and associations providing General Educational Development (GED) preparation courses.

Successful GED test candidates are awarded an Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate, issued by the Ministry of Education. The Independent Learning Centre is the exclusive provider of the GED test in Ontario and the GED test is the only method of earning the Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate.

In order to maintain the integrity of the GED test, the Ministry of Education does not permit the ILC to prepare students for the GED test. Over 150 provincial providers, including YMCA Employment, Training & Settlement Services, provide GED preparation support services.

Please click on the ILC logo above to visit the ILC website.

You can also contact YMCA Employment, Training & Settlement Services at 905.681.1140 for more information on GED preparation services.
